plant shop 805
brand visual creation + guidelines
my role
visual design, creation of visual brand elements + guidelines, illustration, art direction, and design consulting
project overview
Siblings Pippa, Thomas, and Lelah started a venture together consisting of a nursery at their family home in Ojai, CA and a complementary shop in Midtown Ventura, CA. Their property was the perfect place to cultivate and grow ‘rare and unusual plants.’ Paired with plant expertise, they decided to open up Plant Shop 805. I helped center their vision for the brand and set up initial branding elements and guidelines that allowed them to begin making a name and an impact.
At our first meeting, I asked the team to come up with words that felt like the brand and what they wanted for their store. These words helped me create the visuals around their brand: Utilitarian, Friendly, Inclusive, Open-Minded, Artistic, Community, Gender-Neutral.

building brand guidelines
when I design a brand like this, I like to pass over guidelines that help the client know how to use what we’ve just worked together on to create. this usually helps the brand stay intact when passed off and helps guide the client on how to use their new elements!
