project overview
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in March of 2020, our downtown Main Street closed down to cars and became a pedestrian-friendly, outdoor space to allow restaurants and businesses to keep serving customers. Once the initial wave of COVID-19 was over and people were more comfortable going outside, our downtown needed a way to feel more exciting and to bring in customers and revenue.
I created a system of signage that was similar to the current Downtown Ventura Organization branding, but with a brighter color palette and tone of voice. These initial signs have been iterated on over time to reflect the changing environment and even some with Holiday flair!

There were many times when the closure of Main Street was debated, voted on, etc. I helped create several printed visual communication pieces and a complementary website to gather opinion and inform the public about the status of the street closure.
I composited images of our Main Street in to this larger image that was printed and placed on a table top. Visitors to our Main Street were asked to share their ideas on how they’d like Main Street to be used.
These were printed on large panels that Downtown Ventura Organization had on Main Street for visitors to read and interact with.
These were printed as table tents and handed out to restaurants and businesses around the Downtown area. We wanted to make sure we were gathering opinions from as much of our population as possible, having English and Spanish versions.
